The United Methodist Women founded a consignment shop in 1962 that continues to operate today. It was created to be a community outreach program to help the needy. The consignment shop is named “The Bargain Center” and is located in beautiful downtown Venice, Florida.
The shop operates with a staff of church and non-church volunteers. It takes a total of 616 volunteer working hours per month to keep the shop open 6 days per week. The income generated from the shop has been used towards church and mission related projects.
All consignments that are unsold after 30-days of placement automatically become the property of Venice- Nokomis United Methodist Church.
The Bargain Center continues to try and sell these donations for an additional 30 days. After the 60-day period has expired, the items are given to other charities.
Consignments are accepted on Monday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. only. A $4.00 membership fee is charged to open an account for consignment, and the membership fee is renewed annually.
Consignors receive 60% of the sale price. Consignment checks are mailed during the first week of each month. The checks will reflect a $2.00 deduction to cover postage and handling.
The Bargain Center accepts women’s clothing, belts, handbags, hats, jewelry, pictures, dishes, puzzles, and other household items. Women’s clothing is limited to 10 hanging items per month. All garments must be cleaned and on hangers.
We do not accept the following items: furniture, electronic equipment, shoes, books– except for cookbooks and coffee table books– records, tapes, cameras, toys or open puzzles, stuffed animals, sporting goods, and men’s clothing items.
